Tufts Community Union recognizes more than 340 student organizations. 94% of students participate in at least one extracurricular or co-curricular activity.
Thus, there is always something going on on-campus: if you are part of a few clubs, you probably have something going on any given night, but if you want to get away from Tufts for a while, Davis square, a fifteen-minute walk away, is where you will find most of the students' favorite restaurants and small shops. Do not forget that Boston and Cambridge are both right there, in and around which are a number of other college campuses. Boston is, understandably, a huge destination for bands and artists of all varieties. Big acts often come through town, though you can find a plethora of great musicians playing smaller venues all over the city. Make sure to get downtown at least once or twice a month: a common regret among upperclassmen seems to be that they have not yet got off campus on the weekends frequently enough.
Tufts is a medium-sized university with around 5,000 undergraduates. Seven out of ten undergraduates live on campus. Students can choose from 40 residences from small special interest houses, to traditional dorms, to shared apartments. There are 25 residence halls. Similar to residential colleges, students would frequently organize discussions and bring in guest speakers and plan several activities together. Cars and pets are not allowed on campus.
Tufts students succeed in all different career fields and graduate schools. In the class of 2015, 88% of students completed at least one internship and 66% completed two or more.
85% of the class (over 93% knowledge rate) is employed or attending graduate school six months after graduation. Among them 71% are employed full time. 18% of graduates work for finance and consulting spheres, 16% for Healthcare/medicine, research and environment, 13% in software and IT.
Among the companies that employ Tufts students are companies such as Google, Microsoft, Teach For America, J.P. Morgan, Epic and others.
Tufts is in the perfect location: far enough from the hustle and bustle of Boston, but close enough that it's only a short ride on the subway away. While there may be a few sketchy neighborhoods in Boston, Medford (where Tufts is) is safe, quiet, and mostly residential place.
Tufts' main campus is located on Walnut Hill in Medford and Somerville, about 8.0 km from Boston. This campus houses all undergraduates in Arts & Sciences and Engineering, the graduate programs at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and all of the graduate programs in Arts & Sciences and Engineering.
